In 1903, Alex Staudinger homesteaded south-west of Sylvan Lake, Alberta.  The Staudinger family has been farming and ranching in central Alberta ever since, with the original homestead still being in the family.

Fast forward to 2018 and MFL Bison Ranch Ltd. (Alix, Alberta), owned by a grandson (Richard) and great-grandson (Stewart) of Alex, decided to start looking for a butcher shop to help grow their business and give them a venue to market their bison meat to local Central Alberta customers.  The search for a butcher shop led them back to Sylvan Lake and 'Sylvan Quality Meats' was purchased in April 2019.

A month later, on the 14th of May, 'The Ranch Gate Market' opened it's doors.  The Ranch Gate Market brings bison, beef, pork, chicken, yak (raised by a cousin), etc to Sylvan Lake and surrounding communities.  We've obtained the services of Keith, a local Sylvan Lake butcher of 30 years experience, and Sam, our Aussie import who is a 3rd generation butcher.  Their steak and pork bites are a 'grab & go' favourite already.

Our company aim is to provide healthy and, whenever possible, locally sourced meat to our customers.  We are keen supporters of regenerative agricultural practices and holistic rangeland management, so look forward to connecting fellow regenerative ranchers with customers seeking a more natural product.

As ranchers, we enjoy the freshest and best quality meats at our dinner table and aim to bring the same to you. 

 

In addition, we carry Sylvan Star Cheese from a local cheese maker, organic Jersey and whole goat's milk from Rockridge Dairy and we've sourced some unique, healthy and delicious pantry items to compliment the quality local meat you get from us.  Italian tomatoes, Croix Valley sauces and rubs, True North Jerky seasonings and a whole lot more.  Please stop in to check out our extensive Gluten Free options.
